The Grus Galaxy Trio

47 Tucana

An LRGB image of three galaxies in Grus. Clockwise from upper left: NGC7582, NGC7599 and NGC7590. The trio is to be found in the southern sky, declination around -40°, hence it only rises about 10º above the horizon in Spain where my scope is located.

All three galaxies are spirals and are about 70 million light years away. They are each around 11th magnitude.

This image was obtained using the remote hosting facility Telescope Live. Image acquisition was with a larger version of my own scope, a Planewave CDK24, which has 3 times the light gathering power of my 14″.

South is up in this image.

Integration times: Lum 40min; Red, Green & Blue:  30 min each.

Equipment: 24″ Planewave CDK reflector (located in the Rio Hurtado Valley, Chile).  FLI Proline P09000 CCD camera with Astrodon filters.

Processing: calibration carried out onsite by Telescope Live, post-processing with PixInsight.
